Birthright Israel Awards Distinguished Alumni in Houston
On January 16, 2025, Houston’s Jewish community gathered to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Birthright Israel. Russ Robinson hosted the evening and explained why it's essential to support Birthright Israel now. With antisemitism on the rise, Birthright Israel is proven to help young Jews build confidence, resilience, and solidarity with their Jewish peers.
We thank philanthropists Rhona and Bruce Caress for their transformative legacy gift of $5 million to Birthright Israel Foundation, which was announced at the gala.
Distinguished Alumni Awards were presented to Rachel Strauss, a community leader who participated in the first Birthright Israel trip in 1999; Captain Ziv Shemesh, an IDF veteran and Jewish community advocate; and Isaac Malca, a dedicated Birthright Israel volunteer, one of 9,000 who showed up for Israel when help was needed most.
We are so grateful to our supporters for empowering the next generation of Jewish leaders. Congratulations to Isaac, Rachel, and Ziv on this well-deserved honor.
